Holidays and school breaks that suit these waters
Harbour Island sits just off the northern tip of Eleuthera, making a combined itinerary with Eleuthera’s Atlantic beaches and the Glass Window Bridge a natural pairing. From Harbour Island, it’s roughly 50 nautical miles north-west to Nassau or 60 nautical miles south-east into the upper Exuma cays, both comfortably reachable on a 7 to 10-day charter with time for unhurried stops along the way.
The island’s sheltered western harbour offers calm water for swimming and paddleboarding, and Pink Sands Beach slopes gently into the surf, ideal for younger children building confidence in the water. Dunmore Town is small enough to explore safely by foot or golf cart, with ice-cream shops and casual beachside eateries that welcome families of all ages.
A luxury catamaran of 55′-65′ is ideal for couples or small families who want shallow-draft access, open deck space, and excellent stability at anchor. For larger groups of 8 to 12, a motor yacht of 80′-98′ provides more interior volume, a dedicated crew galley, and faster repositioning between Harbour Island, Eleuthera, and the northern Exumas.
The base charter fee covers the yacht, professional crew, and all onboard amenities, water toys, snorkelling gear, tenders, and linens. Food, beverages, fuel, and marina dockage are paid through the APA (typically 25 to 35% of the charter fee). Bahamian VAT of 10% is added to the base rate, and crew gratuity of 10 to 20% is customary and paid separately at the end of the voyage.
Yacht charter Harbour Island delivers one of the most refined escapes in the Bahamas, a three-mile ribbon of pink sand backed by casuarina pines on the Atlantic side and a sheltered harbour lined with pastel-painted Loyalist cottages on the west. The island’s compact footprint (barely half a mile wide) means you step off the tender in Dunmore Town and reach Pink Sands Beach in minutes on foot, passing clapboard galleries and bougainvillea-draped picket fences along the way. The charter fleet ranges from luxury catamarans at 55′ and motor yachts of 68′-98′ to superyachts above 100′, anchoring in the calm lee of the island or docking at Valentine’s Marina. Peak season stretches from December to April with average highs of 26 °C and steady northeast breezes; November and May deliver shoulder-season tranquillity with noticeably fewer visitors ashore.
Daily rates start from $5,700 on a catamaran or mid-size motor yacht and from $10,500 on latest-model yachts above 78′, plus 10% Bahamian VAT and APA. Harbour Island’s singular draw is its unhurried elegance, a place where golf carts outnumber cars, the dress code peaks at linen, and the pink-tinged surf glows amber at sunset.
